As cancer survivors, the Live For Today group understands firsthand the importance of a solid support system and loyal fan base. Regardless of the situation, we know that it’s always reassuring to have people in your corner. This mentality led us to our November group event, the Jaguars vs. Cardinals game and first official Live For Today Foundation tailgate! We all admittedly believe that while our home football team, the Jacksonville Jaguars, may not always be the most winning team in the league, we will always cheer loud and proud for them!
Our members and survivors have been talking about going to a Jaguar’s game together since our very first event and last Sunday it became a reality when we all met up at Everbank Stadium for an awesome Live For Today tailgate before we headed into the stadium for the big game!
We ended up with great parking passes, right next to the stadium and set up an incredibly delicious Mojo Kitchen BBQ spread under our Live For Today tent. Right away, the corn hole boards were put to good use with Shiana and Todd claiming the title of reigning champs after winning 3 games in a row while Shiana’s little sister cheered them on, pom poms and all!
The tailgate was packed, with about 20 members, survivors, friends and family joining us. It was great to welcome Cassandra to her first group event and we all enjoyed meeting two of her friends. However, we were all a bit bummed knowing that this would be Jolie’s last event before she moved back up to Virginia later that day. Jolie has been a fantastic friend and we will greatly miss her vivacious personality, willingness to try anything new, and Todd will certainly miss trying on her beautiful wig…
We all headed over to the stadium a few minutes before kick off and got there just in time to see the Veteran’s Day fly over! Even better, our group of tickets were in the same section as the veteran’s who were recognized on the field, so Marissa and Jolie got a chance to chat with a few of them and take a great group photo!
During the game, we found out that Amber’s boyfriend, Pat, is a huge HUGE Jaguars fan and gave everyone the run down on players and crucial stats. While the Jaguar’s ended up losing, we like to think our group being there was good luck because the team scored their first home game touch down this season! All in all, it ended up being a great game and our BEST event yet.
A very sincere thank you to the Jacksonville Jaguars, especially Elizabeth Mayers, for donating the tickets and parking passes. Also, thank you to our member, Marissa, and her mom, Diane, for the ticket connection and the refreshing fruit tray. Lastly, a big thank you to Mojo Kitchen for providing the serving ware for your delicious BBQ spread.
