This year, our members told us that they all wanted to do more outdoor group events. They talked about picnicking, trips to local parks, sunshine and casually hanging out with everyone in places they could talk. So we listened and decided to plan an awesome trip to explore the Jacksonville Zoo!
With two new exhibits, the Butterfly Hallow and the Land of the Tiger, even those who had been to the Zoo before got to enjoy seeing some cool new animals. The group kicked off the day with a picnic of subs, cookies, apples and chips and got a great chance to catch up about what everyone has been up to since last month.
From there the Live For Today Members & Survivors were ready to explore the Zoo! But first…everyone wanted to take a quick selfie with the komodo dragon!
The rest of the day was spent petting the stingrays in Stingray Bay, riding the train and checking out butterfly hollow where butterflies could land on you and fly all around.
After taking a pit stop for snow cones and frozen chocolate bananas, the group hung out and had a good laugh over the monkeys goofing around and enjoyed watching them swing all over the place. The Land of the Tigers exhibit was nothing short of awesome and if you haven’t had a chance to check it out, we would all recommend it!
The funniest part of the day was when Lilly, a little girl who was at stingray bay with her family, immediately fell in love with one of our members, Kara. Lilly started talking to her and asking to pet the sting rays with her. All of the sudden, we looked back over and the little girl had jumped in Kara’s lap to hang out!
All in all, it was a great day with our awesome the group at the Zoo!
We would sincerely like to thank everyone at The Jacksonville Zoo for making this group event possible and so much fun! We’ve got another group event coming up soon, so follow us on our social media channels for the latest updates!
