Everyone’s creative juices were flowing at last weekend’s Live For Today group event, Painting with a Twist in San Marco.
Members and survivors put brush to canvas and learned how to paint the iconic Jacksonville Main Street Bridge, while catching up about the Thanksgiving holiday, black Friday shopping and everyone’s plans for December.
But the conversation buzz seemed to noticeably slow down as everyone began painting…
We all really had to focus on what we were doing. I give artists a ton of credit after this event. Painting is a true skill and way harder than it looks,” said Todd, one of the founders of Live For Today.
Our Painting With A Twist teacher, Sonia, was perfect for our group. She was incredibly patient, took the time to help each person individually and encouraged us not to worry about little mistakes, because the paintings weren’t intended to be exact copies.
The unanimous feeling while painting was that everyone felt their painting wasn’t quite turning out the way they wanted it to. But in the end Sonia was right, it was cool to see how each painting came together and ended up looking uniquely different.
It really all came down to the little details. Every small tweak, even the ones that didn’t seem important, made such a big difference in the final paintings.
I was kind of nervous when we got started with our paintings about messing up, but afterwards I felt like I had created my own masterpiece. I can’t wait to hang it in my room where it is visible so I can see my painting all the time.” said Alex, a Live For Today survivor.
Thank you to Painting With A Twist for donating your time and materials to make this wonderful event possible!
